Case Study: Reinforced Concrete Slab Installation

Project Overview

DUG Construction was appointed to deliver a bespoke reinforced concrete slab installation within an operational industrial warehouse. The slabs were designed to support new mezzanine legs, packing lines, and a large industrial blender unit, requiring precise setting out and integration with the existing concrete floor.

Project Details

Client: VN Labs / Supreme Imports
Location: Manchester, UK
Sector: Industrial / Commercial
Services: Reinforced concrete slabs, structural setting out, steel reinforcement, formwork and finishing

The Challenge:

  • Setting out slab locations in line with structural engineer’s drawings
  • Installation of 200mm thick reinforced concrete slabs
  • A393 mesh reinforcement installed top and bottom
  • Dowelling new slabs into the existing floor using M16 dowel bars at maximum 1.0m centres
  • Timber formwork to achieve clean, accurate slab edges
  • Concrete placement, compaction, and power-float finishing

Our Solution

DUG Construction adopted a phased installation approach, allowing other trades to continue working on site. Accurate setting out, robust shuttering, and correctly positioned reinforcement ensured the slabs met all structural and operational requirements.

Result

The completed reinforced concrete slabs provide a durable, high-performance foundation solution fully integrated with the existing warehouse floor. The area is now ready to receive mezzanine steelwork and industrial machinery, supporting long-term operational use.
